Swim lessons

M is taking swimming lessons at the Y for Monday through Thursday for the next two weeks. He has already had parent/tot classes, so he moved up to an instructor taught class this time. He's a pike. In the pike class, the children swim with a flotation belt. Of course, M has no fear of water, but he's a 3.5 year old (I think he's possibly the youngest in his class), so he also doesn't listen. He loves to swim, and he just kind of goes on his merry way.

They have the classes separated by lanes, but there is no divider separating the deep end of the pool from the shallow end. Yesterday, the instructors (the Y's lead aquatics lady and two of the teenage lifeguards) had to keep corraling M b/c he kept trying to head toward the deep end.

Imagine my surprise today when the kids did indeed swim the length of the pool and back 4 or 5 times. M was the slowest, but that's because he is still trying to walk kick (using his whole legs) and he isn't crawling yet. So tonight, we came home and I got him in front of me and we worked on the crawling technique. I have a feeling he will have to repeat this class again next year, but the instructor just laughed at me and assured me he was doing great.

She did also laugh and say, "I'm sure you are wore out at the end of the day with him around."

It's a good thing my hair is colored blonde so she can't see all the grey and white hair I have already. I promise you, the kid has put it there.
