Wow, it's been such a long time since I posted. Well, I'm over halfway through the pregnancy. Last Tuesday, we had our ultrasound; we took M with us and he kept asking if his baby was growin'. The funny thing is that it sounded like he was asking if the baby was groin. This bugger is stubborn too. We fought the baby the entire u/s appointment. The tech said she saw a brother and would be surprised if it wasn't a boy. However, her demeanor has brought us to the conclusion that we will proceed as if we didn't know the sex.
My OB summed having a kid up the best. "Having a kid is like getting a Christmas present. You wait to open it. You can prod it, poke it, shake it, but you still don't know what it is until you open it."
I'm still not really showing like most women would be this far along in their pregnancy, but I didn't with M either. I did get to experience something with this kid that I didn't with M...hiccups.
Last night, I was lying in bed watching Fraiser when I felt movement in the same spot repeatedly and almost on que. I pondered what the kid was doing for a brief moment, and then I realized....the baby had hiccups! What an odd feeling!
M is so excited about the baby. He tells us all the time that it is "my baby" and not our baby. We have started working on the baby's room. We ripped up the carpet and started lying down laminate wood floors (better for kids with allergies which I am sure this kid will have). I still haven't decided what color to paint the nursery. I have narrowed down the bedding choices to two sets:
Good Night Bear
Jungle Nursery
I've had people ask me whether or not I was disappointed that the tech said another boy. Actually I'm pretty stoked about another boy. Just think:
1. I won't have to pay for a wedding.
2. I don't have to worry her getting pregnant (although I will have to worry about him getting someone pregnant).
3. I won't have to go through the entire "You are becoming a woman" thing or another of the other things that women have to deal with.
4. No expensive prom dresses.
5. No expensive dance or cheerleading outfits that they have to have 5 off.
6. I pretty much will have everything I need.
7. I will get to play rough and get dirty.
Another boy will be just fine.

Aquanet?
Ok, I know the girls of the 80s remember Aquanet. It was the must have hairspray to do the big bangs of the 80s. What spawned this post about Aquanet? Well....
TMI, yes I know, but I was in the bathroom earlier this afternoon. I spend at least 30 minutes a day in there now that I am pregnant. Well, while I was in there, in walks Ms. Big Hair as I call her with her can of hair spray.
This lady isn't much older than me (in her late 20s-early 30s). Her ritual consists of whipping out her pick to fluff and ratt her hair and then to spray her hair a minimum of 15 times with a can of hairspray that would make even a non-preggers gag. I'm washing my hands during this afternoon ritual (she does this twice a day), and I'm literally holding my breath b/c I can't breath anyway.
I wanted to tell her to invest in some Aquanet, but alas....do they even have the stuff anymore? Probably not because I can't find it online.
Woe is me or anyone else in the ladies room her on my floor during the big hair ritual.
GAG!

Mother's Day funnies
What Moms REALLY want for Mother's Day
10) To be able to eat a whole candy bar by herself, and drink a glass of Coke without any "floaters".
9) To have my 14 year old answer a question without rolling her eyes in that "Why is this person my mother?" way.
8) Five pounds of chocolate that won't add twenty.
7) A shower, without a child peeking through the curtain with a "Hiya, Mom" just as I put razor to my ankle.
6) A full-time cleaning person, who looks like Brad Pitt.
5) For my teenager to announce, "Hey, Mom! I got a full scholarship and a job all in the same day!"
4) A grocery store that doesn't have candy/gum/cheap toys displayed at the checkout line.
3) To have a family meal without a discussion about bodily secretions.
2) To be able to sit down on a plane with my toddlers and not have some pencil-neck-yuppie moan, "Ohhh, nooo! Why me?"
1) Four words: Fisher Price Play Prison.
Mother's Day Breakfast
Two children ordered their mother to stay in bed one Mother's Day morning. As she lay there looking forward to breakfast in bed, the smell of bacon floated up from the kitchen.
But after a good long wait she finally went downstairs to investigate. She found them both sitting at the table eating bacon and eggs.
"As a surprise for Mother's Day," one explained, "we decided to cook our own breakfast."

Potty Training & Captain Jack
I know it’s been a long time since I’ve written. I’m just entering my second trimester and I’m starting to get my wind back. Thank goodness! For some reason, I have had heartburn very early with this pregnancy, and the doctor ended up prescribing Zantac OTC, and boy, that has made all the difference. Anyway, here is the latest on our front.
We are finally making decent progress on potty training. What we have been doing is buying M a big toy to earn like a new light saber or new ship, etc. and we give him one sticker for each time he goes potty (peeing has never been the problem here) and one sticker for staying dry all day. So on a good day, he earns 3 stickers toward his prize with 20 stickers usually being the earning price. I am happy to say we are having relatively few problems. Yeah! He just might be out of pull-ups before the kiddo arrives in October.
Now for a funny story.
Pepaw has been allowing M to play with a cheap scope he had from a gun. M asked Pepaw where he got the scope, to which Pepaw told him he stole it from a pirate. So, for the last two weeks or so, M has really gotten into playing pirates.
B went to the race in Texas, so it was just M & I last weekend. I took M to Memaw and Pepaw’s to play and visit and we ended up staying overnight. Well by the time we got home Sunday, M was covered in dirt and he had a little accident, so I threw him in the tub. I washed his hair and scrubbed him good and then I went to unload the dishwasher quickly why he played. M got out of the tub and came to me and I noticed the towel I had put out was very wet in spots. I went to hang it up over the shower curtain to dry before I put it in the hamper only to find….
My bathroom floor was covered in water! We have two bathmats in the bathroom. Both had water just running off of them when I pulled them up. I threw those in the laundry basket and took them to the washer. I had to use three more bath towels to clean up the water on the floor. The standing water in the laundry basket required another bath towel. It turns out my wonderful little boy thought he was Captain Jack and the boat, er, tub in the case, was taking on too much water. He bailed water into my bathroom floor using the cup we use to rinse his hair.
I was upset at the time, but it was truly funny. What an imagination!
